About Deanna & Addicted to Hope

I am a parent who lost my child to this insidious disease of addiction. I have made it my mission help others fight, though my own battles waged every single moment of every single day.

In November 2015, my daughter Morgan and her unborn son, Isaiah, passed away from an accidental overdose, after 8 years of fighting the disease of addiction. Those 8 years taught me many things about the disease of addiction – most importantly the journey taught me about the power of love and hope.

Many people told me to let my daughter hit “Rock Bottom”, but that was not the answer for me. Love was the only way out. As parents, we should not be made to feel “wrong” for loving our children through their disease. Over the years I have witnessed a number of parents that felt pressured into making decisions that they were not comfortable with. This is one of the reasons I wanted to become a SHE RECOVERS® Coach. I don’t feel anyone should ever be pushed through a door they are not ready to walk through. Every family is different, and every situation is unique. I never turned my back on my daughter, and I stood in my own truth of what this battle would look like for us. That love still flows between us, and I stand on that foundation every day.

Losing Morgan has been the most difficult journey of my life. It has taken much time, and work to balance all the emotions that come with such tragic loss. Grief isolates us. We lose contact with family and friends, and we lose our grip at work.
The world does not stop turning for us, and unfortunately, after a time we are held to the same Personal & Professional Standards as before. There IS a way to create balance. To carry Joy in one hand and Grief in the other. There is POWER in the Rising. We get to re-write our stories, and be our authentic selves. Being Present and holding space for people to regain their footing and rewrite their story as I have is a Passion of Mine. Things will never be the same, but standing in gratitude of our new story, while holding space for our precious children is a powerful transformation.

I would be honored to help you along this path.

Testimonials

“The day I called Deanna changed everything. Although she was navigating through her own darkest nightmare, she graciously gave all the time I needed from her to listen to my concerns, my frustrations, and most of all my fears. But she didn’t just listen, she heard me. She took my hand and I wasn’t alone in the nightmare anymore.”

I initially reached out to Deanna at what I thought was my darkest time.

My son had been suffering from and fighting the disease of addiction for several years. Not only did I feel so alone due to the stigma surrounding addiction, I was painfully afraid, confused and lost. I had limited resources and outlets to talk about this deadly disease my son and my family was suffering from. The few doctors, counselors, therapists I thought I could trust just made it more confusing. They wanted me to let me son fall, abandon him, “hit rock bottom” as the saying goes. The day I called Deanna changed everything. Although she was navigating through her own darkest nightmare, she graciously gave all the time I needed from her to listen to my concerns, my frustrations, and most of all my fears. But she didn’t just listen, she heard me. She took my hand and I wasn’t alone in the nightmare anymore.

That first conversation was a gift to me and my son. It gave us hope. It gave us the okay to love unconditionally again. It opened the door to better communication and understanding. To this day, I am convinced it helped give us the most valuable gift of all, more time.

Through the years to follow, Deanna continued to be a beacon of light in the dark, a source of knowledge and comfort, even humor at times. In May of 2017, tragedy hit my family full force. Addiction had taken my son’s final breath.

Still holding on, Deanna continues to be a guiding light on this journey of grief. Her ability to justly identify life’s rawest emotions and speak of them with such genuine honesty leaves you feeling lighter yet stronger; refreshed with a sense of control. She helps you feel better. She gives you Hope.

“I found out my son had an opioid addiction and I said to myself he’s going to die. I had no idea what to do or where to start I then met you, Deanna – my miracle, my earth angel. You opened your heart and arms and guided me in a journey that is something beyond words. No matter what time of every single day you were and still are there for me. “

Not once in my life was I ever afraid of losing anything but 5 years ago that changed. I found out my son had an opioid addiction and I said to myself he’s going to die. I had no idea what to do or where to start I then met you, Deanna – my miracle, my earth angel. You opened your heart and arms and guided me in a journey that is something beyond words. No matter what time of every single day you were and still are there for me. You educated me, you loved me and made me understand I’m not alone. Without you my son wouldn’t be here today and I’d be a body with no heart or soul left. You taught me to fight and never give up! You taught me there is hope. I can’t thank you enough for being you and anyone who is blessed enough to have you in their life like I do is something to forever be grateful for.

You’re amazing, you’re a warrior, and please never stop doing all the wonderful things you do.
I’m still fighting this battle but I know I’m going to win because you gave me the tools to do so.
Thank you with all my heart and god bless you
